It has long since occurred to us that people who are fortunate enough to have nice cars, should put them to good use with those either less fortunate, ill or disadvantaged in some way. In fact, we feel very passionate about this, “why shouldn’t other people enjoy our dream too?”. We have a great base from which to do this, brilliant facilities, and a place where people can meet, view the cars and be taken for a drive. In particular circumstances we are available to host parties for disadvantaged people (of any age).
We welcome anyone that stores a ‘posh car’ at ‘The Car Factory’ to join our group of volunteers. Members that use their own cars will enjoy a significant discount if they allow their car to form part of the experience. ‘The Dream Factory’ is growing and we are now developing into creating a network of likeminded people with ‘posh, sports or classic cars’ across the UK, its been great to do this locally in Leicestershire. Its a start, but we want disadvantaged people nationwide to benefit and we are well on our way to building a national network of volunteers and great cars that will help make a difference to people lives.
We have lots of reasons for wanting to do this for people, but when we first started doing this type of thing on our own, we had this idea of taking the ‘uncool’ kids (who sadly are often the bullied kids) to their school proms in a nice car (candidly so its not just the cool or wealthy kids that enjoy the glamour). We want the people that have a low self esteem etc, to be the ones feeling good. This was really the seed of the idea, which then led to some terminally ill children and older people with learning difficulties. It’s great, everyone involves enjoys being involved, they make a difference and they enjoy their own passion for cars at the same time.
If you know anyone that would benefit from visiting ‘The Dream Factory’, hosting a party or a chauffeured journey in one of our cars, then please let us know.
Equally if you know someone who would like to volunteer in some form, whether they have a car they want to use or not, then please let us know. Put your time, your car to the best possible use!!
Edgar’s Gift is an East Midlands based charity set up in 2010 in memory of Ben Edkins, who passed away following a yearlong fight with cancer. He was just 25 when he died after battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of muscle cancer. The charity was founded by Ben’s parents Julie and Neil Bradman, alongside Ben’s family and friends – all of whom Ben influenced and had a special and positive effect on their lives. Edgar’s Gift aims to raise money, which will enable us to provide special days out, unique experiences and luxury gifts for young adults aged 18-30 who are suffering from cancer. www.edgarsgift.org.uk
Over thirty years ago, Winston’s Wish became the first dedicated childhood bereavement charity, paving the way for children and young people’s bereavement services across the UK. Winston’s Wish supports grieving children, young people, and the adults supporting them, through a wide range of content and services to help those grieving make sense of their feelings and provide them with the tools they need to rebuild a life around their grief. With a bold vision to see a society in which every child and young person gets the help they need after anyone close to them dies, the mission is clear – to make sure no child or young person faces grief alone. www.winstonswish.org
